| The objective
of these activities is to solve the problem of canals and drains being
blocked by garbage and weeds, obstructing the flow of water on the eastern
and western banks of the Lower Chao Phraya River. This obstruction is an
important factor in causing floods, and dredging of canals will improve
their capability to efficiently store and drain water into the sea.
Dredging of canals and removal of weeds in the Lower Chao
Phraya River is con'ed out to increase the water storage area and
slow the flow of water as much as possible during high-tides and to help
speed up drainage during low-tides. Dredging has begun in area 6, which
comprises Pathum Thani, Nakhon Pathom, Nonthaburi, Bangkok, Samut Prakarn,
and Samut Sakorn. The work is coordinated by the Office of the Royal Development
Projects Board.
