Project area - 1,135 rai (181.6 hectares)

Following the Royal Initiative of His Majesty the King, the Chaipattana Foundation, in collaboration with the Office of the Royal Development Projects Board and the Royal Irrigation Department, had studied the design of the project to collect polluted water and waste from Phetchaburi Municipality and nearby areas to treat and disposal at Laem Phak Bia Subdistrict, Ban Laem District, Phetchaburi Province. The Project consists of four subprojects as follows:
      1) A project to treat waste water from the community by natural methods
      2) A project to dispose of waste by a sanitary landfill method
      3) A project to use compost produced from waste to fill and load the mangrove area with nutrients for reforestation purposes
      4) A project to use the treated water for agricultural purposes.

The working team has formulated the layout for the implementation of the project by dividing the research work to treat waste water from the community into four systems which are
       1) The Lagoon Treatment System
      2) The Artificially Constructed Wetland System
      3) The Grass Filtration System
      4) The Red and White Mangrove System

Area prepared for experimenting waste disposal

Waste disposal area of Phetchaburi Municipality

The project will include the arrangement of an area for waste disposal by taking only organic substances to make compost and use this compost to fill and nourish the land in the mangrove forest area. This method is done by constructing seven 20 x 148 m. experimentation plots for waste disposal.
Plot 1 ferment the waste with fermenting agent and wet it with the water from a polishing pond.
Plots 2-7 use the sanitary landfill method.
Note: The implementation will begin in the year 1998.

The process involves using organic substances from waste to make compost for filling and nourishing the mangrove area for reforestation purposes. Not only will we have the mangrove resource to make use of, but the area will provide a good ecosystem, a habitat as well as a food source for aquatic fauna. Moreover, the mangrove forest can prevent the erosion of the mangrove soil.

The idea of this project is to use the water after it underwent every step of waste water treatment process for agriculture, aquatic fauna culture and public utility purposes.

ผลการดำเนินงาน
The Laem Pak Bia Environment Study and Development Project According to His Majesty the King's Royal Initiative creates benefits for the environment as follows:
    1. The treatment system can treat approximately 10,000 cubic meters of water per day.
    2. The treated water can be used for agricultural purposes up to 5,000 cubic meters per day.
    3. The successful results of the research and development can be applied to projects with similar conditions and characteristics.
    4. The waste water from the municipal area can be prevented from flowing into the Phetchaburi River which will help restore and maintain environmental as well as natural balances.
