Secretary-General of the Chaipattana Foundation Follows Up on the Progress of the “Rice Straw Burning Reduction in Paddy Fields”

On 5 June 2025, Mr. Sumet Tantivejkul, Member and Secretary-General of the Chaipattana Foundation and Chairman of the Thai Rice Foundation under Royal Patronage, together with executives from the Chaipattana Foundation and Mrs. Darunee Edwards, Secretary-General of the Thai Rice Foundation, visited the Chaipattana Foundation Rice Mill and the demonstration paddy fields of participating farmers in Lat Bua Luang District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, to follow up on the progress of the “Rice Straw Burning Reduction in Paddy Fields” initiative.

This initiative is a collaborative effort between the Chaipattana Foundation, the Thai Rice Foundation under Royal Patronage, and various partner organizations. It aims to reduce the burning of rice straw in paddy fields by introducing microorganisms to decompose the straw naturally. This method enhances soil fertility, supports soil ecosystems, reduces farming costs, and improves crop yields. Most importantly, it prevents the release of carbon dioxide from burning, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions and preventing the formation of harmful dust that negatively impacts human health and the environment.

This initiative will serve as a model to promote the use of microorganisms in paddy fields among local farmers, paving the way for more sustainable agricultural practices in the future.
