On 27 July 2022, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn made a royal visit to Nakhon Nayok Province to observe the activity of transplanting rice seedlings at the paddy demonstration plot at Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy, Muang District, Nakhon Nayok Province.

The rice, which is RD87, was transplanted by means of sowing method, which is suitable in irrigation area as it requires a smaller number of seeds. Before this transplantation, the rice had been taken out of the water and covered with sacks or cloth to keep the grains moist for 1-2 nights. The roots would gradually germinate, which helps speed up the growth after sowing.

The RD87 rice is the non-photoperiod-sensitive rice certified by Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives in 2020. The harvesting period is about 114 days, with productivity around 730 kilograms/rai. This type of rice can provide the highest yield at 1,053 kilogram/rai. It is in high demand because of its physical quality-long grain with low chalky white belly. Additionally, this rice contains low Amylose, provides higher yield, resists to pests and can be grown all year round. Once cooked, it has aromatic smell with soft texture. The rice will be thereafter distributed to schools and local people.
